    Table of Contents in 2000

I want to generate and be able to edit the Table of Contents set up on a page in my multi-chapter document.

When I was using Word97, I generated my TOC by using Insert, Index and Tables, Table of Contents and was able to edit the resulting text if I wanted to. This was helpful when I wanted to tweak the TOC before final print.

I am now using Word 2000. After I generate the table of contents in this version of Word, I CANNOT edit the text. If I try to put my cursor on a word, I am immediately taken to that place in the document.

How do I turn this "feature" off???

    Thanks in advance,
    Georgette

    Georgette,

You also may want to look at <A target="_blank" HREF=http://www.wopr.com/cgi-bin/w3t/showthreaded.pl?Cat=&Board=wrd&Number=17884&page=& view=&sb=&vc=1#Post17884>this thread </A>for a couple of different macro solutions - will save you a lot of clicking and editing.

How do you keep track of old threads ? For me it is usually out of sight = out of mind.

The trick is: I remember that there was a thread about the subject sometime before.
Then I go to the handy Search feature, and try out searching on some likely keywords.
Invariably this turns up a nice list of past posts that require just a little sifting through to turn up the relevant ones.
As time goes by, the forums contain more and more really useful knowhow, just waiting to be mined via that Search function. <img src=/S/clever.gif border=0 alt=clever width=15 height=15>

I agree. I'd go further and say "If you're NOT using SEARCH, then you're not getting the most out of the board".

If you want to keep the hyperlinks, use the up and down arrow keys to navigate to the lines in the TOC field that you need to edit.
