Instance of Word Addin sometimes remains (Word 2000/SR3)

I have a Word Addin that is loaded via VBA code which in most cases works fine. When it is loaded you see an instance of it in the same folder as the Word addin as shown in the attachment( ~$CEWPWordAddin.DOT) and disappears when the last Word is closed. Still there have been a few times when it has remained yet I have not found any word doc open even in task manager. Any ideas?

    Hi Jim:
Files that have the form ~$filename.dot (or .doc) are owner files. If you are the first to open a .doc file or load a template, they are created. It's used to prevent others from modifying it at the same time that you have it open. If Word crashes or closes somewhat abnormally, these files are left behind. That's why you sometimes get a message to the effect that the file is in use; do you want to wait & be notified or open it read-only. See this article for a more complete explanation.
    Cheers,

Using Word as the e-mail editor in Outlook also can result in one or the other of the two programs being in memory when there are no active windows visible.
