    Lost password (Win XP Prof)

My son has forgotten his Windows password. Is there any way to get into his PC? What do we do now?

Check out this knowledge base article: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?...kb;en-us;321305

Apparently there is no easy fix! Good luck!

Re: Lost password (Win XP Prof)

Looking at the suggested KB, the following lines appear:

305478 HOW TO: Create and Use a Password Reset Disk for a Computer That Is Not a Domain Member in Windows XP

306214 HOW TO: Create and Use a Password Reset Disk for a Computer in a Domain in Windows XP

What does the phrase "Computer that is not a domain member" or Computer in a domain" mean?

Domains are used to manage centralised passwords in companies. Passwords are stored on central computers and users can log on to any PC on the network using their domain password.

A computer at home will not be a domain member, and passwords are stored on the local computer.
