Multiple Versions of Word on Same Comp. (2000/SP-3)

I remember reading a post as to how to run different versions of Word on the same computer. After searching through all posts, I assume this post was removed due to the culling being done. Can anyone tell me the best way that this can be done and the pros/cons to it?

If you want to install multiple versions of Office appllications on one computer, you must install them in different folders and you must start with the oldest version. For example, if you want to run Word 97 and Word 2000, install Word 97 first, then install Word 2000 in a different folder.

Thanks Hans, I'll be installing 2002 (along with running 2000). Do you know of any problems I may have when running either version?

Hi Leanne, you should be OK. You may notice that if you open a Word document from Windows Explorer, it opens in the version of Word you used most recently, so if you want to be certain that you use a specific version of Word, start that version first.

Having never had 2 versions at once, I am curious about something. Can you set shortcuts in Windows Explorer to point to a specific version that will open it? (e.g. "C:Program FilesOffice 97winword.exe" vs. "C:Program FilesOffice 2000winword.exe")? Or, could you open files from Windows Explorer either by adding these actions to the Explorer context menu or by having two options in SendTo? Thanks.

I haven't done this recently (the last time was with Office 95 and Office 97), but if memory serves, the answer to all your questions is Yes.

If you use Access 2K at all, make sure you upgrade your Office 2K install to SP3.

The VBA6.dll in Office XP can cause problems with databases created in Access 2K.
