    Name Changing (2000/SR1)

I created a simple time card form in Word, using form fields. One small problem. On one of the users computers, when he enters his name, George, after hitting the space bar, it is shortened to Geor.
It only does it on his computer, when I try it on other computers, it works fine. Other names work fine also. The form field is a text field and it is set for Title Case. I checked Auto Correct to make sure that there wasn't a setting in there that was changing the name. The only thing in there was a setting to change george to George.
Anybody have an idea of what else I should be looking for? Thanks for the help.

In the "you probably checked this already" department -- remember that the AutoCorrect list and the AutoText list are different things. The abbreviation might possibly be hiding in AutoText rather than AutoCorrect.

The second possibility is that something in AutoCorrect or AutoText on George's machine is fixating not on "George" but on the "ge" string in and of itself.

Alternately -- an unlikely but not completely impossible answer -- there's the possibility that the "ge" is not being deleted, but somehow being morphed into Hidden Text. I'd be happier about that guess if it were happening on all the machines, but one never knows.

All this assumes that it's a Word-customization error. However -- the fact that it's occurring only on George's machine makes me wonder about a *selection* error; that is, that the deletion happens because "ge" has been selected just before George hits the space bar, and so is being deleted via overtype. And you might, if only to eliminate the possibility, try switching out George's keyboard on the small chance that there's some kind of hardware glitch going on there.

    Hi Don:
This was a bug in Word 2000 that was corrected with SR1a. As I recall, the workaround was to set the formfield to an exact number of characters (unprotect, double click the field & change unlimited to a specified number). (I remember when teh was "corrected" to either th or a blank). <img src=/S/grin.gif border=0 alt=grin width=15 height=15> See 212394
    Cheers,
