date on form letter (word97sr2)

How do I get my form letter template to insert today's date, but not update it when I open the letter tomorrow?

Hi nrr,

If you are creating your document from a template, consider using the CREATEDATE field. eg { CREATEDATE @ "d/MM/yyyy"}

If you are creating your document from a mail merge try: { QUOTE { DATE @ "d/MM/yyyy " } }

The QUOTE field leaves plain text in your merged document, which means it can't be updated.

Regards,

Matthew

You could also use an AutoNew macro that you put in the letter template. Assuming that you had a date field in your template, the macro would select the date field in a new document, lock it, & then position the cursor in the next field. The advantage is that if it takes more than a day to type the letter or you want to resend the letter with a current date, you can unlock & update the field. e.g.
Sub AutoNew()
Selection.HomeKey Unit:=wdStory
Selection.NextField.Select
Selection.Fields.Locked = True
Selection.NextField.Select
End Sub

If you don't know how to use the macro, post back.
Cheers,
