How can I require visitors to enter a username and password before viewing ONLY specific pages on our site?

One thing you will have to be careful of however is the server on which your page is hosted. Not all servers allow site owners to control access to their pages. On an NT server with Frontpage extensions it neds to be done at the ISP. They allocate users with passwords and change them etc... You may need to find out if this will affect you.

    Hello Haddim,

This can be a tricky situation. The first thing you need to do is check to find out if you are hosting your site on an NT/Win2K server or are you on a Unix server. Once, you have this information, you can proceed a bit further.

If you are in a Unix environment, you can create subwebs that have unique permissions provided your hosting company allows it. And password protect those subwebs.

In unix environment, make a new folder on the web server live at http://www.haddimcom.com and then, all those pages you that you want in here to this folder. Next, right click on the folder and convert this to a web. You will need to have a index.htm page in this web also. It is a child web of www.haddimcom.com. Once this is done, go to Tools, Permissions and then select Unique for this web. And then give it a username and password.

If you are on an NT server, my best but not easiest suggestion would be to use the Login script -- that are asp pages from www.frontpagehowto.com. <img src=/S/thumbup.gif border=0 alt=thumbup width=15 height=15>This takes a bit of coding and learning of asp pages but is well worth the effort.

    Hope that helps <img src=/S/smile.gif border=0 alt=smile width=15 height=15>

    Albablanca,

I took your steps all the way through except at the end. After selecting "Unique for this web" under Permissions, I don't see a way to add a new user and/or password, despite the multiple Add buttons. I assume I choose the Users tab, but could you instruct me from there?

    Again, much thanks,
    haddim
