    Saving picture as jpg (WindowsXP)

I have been saving pictures from the Internet for some time, but since earlier this month I can only save as a bmp. I looked over my saved pictures for the last year or so and it seems as if I go from jpg to bmp every so often. In other words, I will have a whole series of pictures that save as jpgs and then a whole series that save as bmps. Right now, my browser gives me no choices other than bmp and I don't want to take up that amount of space. I have tried unsuccessfully to find a setting to choose one or the other, but cannot.

    Thanks for any help.

    Clear your cache.

Tools | Internet Options | General tabs | Temporary Internet Files | Delete Files

Take a look at KB260650 & see if that helps.
    Cheers,

Try the first step -- clearing the cache -- as 99.9% of the time that is the answer.

Re: Saving picture as jpg (WindowsXP)

I have read Microsoft article 260650, 250747, and 810978 and have followed the instructions therein. Nothing seems to work. (That is, I have tried the methods to save the file; I am sure that I can convert it later, but that is not an option that I am searching for.)

Is there anything else that might be causing this? I am at a loss.

The only other thing that comes to mind is to save the page using "Web Page, complete" to a temporary folder, then scrounge the graphic out of the _files subfolder that IE creates. Wasteful if you have to do it often, but might help on occasion.

What is the size of you TIF -- and is it completely empty? Sometimes the 'manual' emptying method works the best.

One quick way to test this: Try to open a web page in the View Source Editor. To do that, right-click on any web page and select "View Source". What happens?
