uninstall outlook (Office2k ProSP3/Win2k ProSP4)

oh

i am having a vile time right now , and am in sore need of help. i have tried to use outlook, but am so messed up with the settings and what's what that i have no idea which end is up. i figured that the easiest way to solve all these problems is to uninstall, then reinstall, outlook. i have been trying to do so, to no avail. i tried going into Settings, Control Panel, then into Add/Delete Programs to do so, but it's not there anywhere. all i find is Microsoft Office 2000 SR-1 Professional and Microsoft Office 2000 Disc 2; the individual programs are nowhere to be found.

how do i delete the darned thing? once i get it deleted, i am going to call verizon DSL, and ask them to walk me through the installation and setup, step by step, holding my hand all the way. i am so frustrated at this point that i am ready to shoot the 'puter, but my husband might shoot me if i did. can anyone out here/there please save both my life and a little over $1200?

so very much. you have no idea how much i appreciate your help. on that note, i will say good night. until the next time, take care and God bless.

When you get into the MS Office install/un-installer you will be given a list, just clear the check mark from Outlook and it will be un-installed. There may even be a "Repair" function.

Also have you tried the "Detect and Repair" under help, I think it is in 2000?

Now running HP Pavilion a6528p, with Win7 64 Bit OS.

Don't delete the whole program if the problem is the Account settings. You should be able to delete the account settings either using Tools>Accounts (if you are set up in Internet Mail Only (IMO) mode) or Tools>Services (for Corporate/Workgroup (CW) mode) from inside Outlook, or using the Mail control panel (Start>Settings>Control Panels>Mail).

thanks dave. i only have two questions: 1. where, pray tell, is the install/uninstaller? and 2. "Detect and Repair" under help: which help- windows or office? sorry to ask questions that probably have very simple answers, but i am a neophyte's neophyte here, and haven't the vaguest idea of where to look for what. for your help and for your time. take care and God bless.

thanks for your help. the reason i want to uninstall it and start all over again is because i haven't the slightest idea as to whether i am in IMO or CW mode, and, at this point, am not sure that i really care. i haven't gotten any e-mail in outlook, except for the initial welcome to outlook one that comes through as soon as you set up the program, so it's not as though i am going to lose anything. i am just so frustrated at this point that i don't give a rip. i do thank you for showing me how to find out which is which, but to start all over again seems to me to be the best thing for me to do. after all, i only have so much hair, and it grows back very s-l-o-w-l-y.
once again for your help and your time. until the next time (and i am sure that there will be one!), take care and God bless.

Lady, the detect and repair is in Outlook help. The reference to uninstall of only outlook is a screen you will see when you choose add/remove programs in the control panel. If you have the option to modify, you might want to try that first. But either modify or remove should have a screen early on where you see a list of the Office programs and can uncheck outlook. That will cause outlook to be removed. (mostly).

But as someone earlier mentioned, don't uninstall outlook if this is just an account setup problem. Verizon help should be able to walk you through that.

You can determine your mode simply by looking at your Tools menu. If you have Accounts... you are in IMO and if you have Services... you are in CW. For home use, IMO is generally considered preferable. If you need to switch, one of the many tabs in Tools>Options... has a button labeled "Reconfigure something something" which will switch the mode.

I guess if you haven't set up any personal settings or added any data, there's no harm to repairing or reinstalling, it just seems as though you shouldn't have to do that.

As a footnote to jscher2000's post, the tab in Options he is referring to is the second one and is named either "Mail Services" or "Mail Delivery" - depending on your Outlook flavour. The button is labeled "Reconfigure Mail Support" and is at the bottom of the tab. You can also tell which Outlook mode you have installed by looking at Help|About Microsoft Outlook - it's on the second line at the very top. HTH

Re: uninstall outlook (Office2k ProSP3/Win2k ProSP4)

thanks, john, for your words of wisdom concerning my problem with outlook. to quote you:

"Lady, the detect and repair is in Outlook help. (mostly)."

john, i believe that i mentioned in the initial post that i had looked for the individual programs in the add/remove programs; they are NOT there. all that is there are these entries: Microsoft Office 2000 SR-1 Professional and Microsoft Office 2000 SR-1 Disc 2. nowhere to be found is a listing of the individual programs. since the individual programs don't exist, neither does the option to modify. i had one friend suggest to me that i put the original program disks in and remove it that way, but i can't seem to find that option there, either. do you see why i am at the stage?

as far as verizon is concerned, i have enough other stuff to discuss with them now, aside from this, that whoever answers the phone is going to be lit up for quite some time to come, and may have a challenge sitting for a day or three. they already don't like to hear my name and voice over the headset...

i must not supposed to be doing this, or making any other change to outlook, or office for that matter, as i can't even seem to format a CR properly so that i can back up all my data, just in case i have to uninstall the entire darned office 2000 program and start all over again, but that's a whole 'nother story... i have only been messing around with 'puters for about three or four years now, so it's not as though i know a whole lot about them, but this is the first time that i have had something come this close to defeating me, and i am not a defeatist! i guess what i am is frustrated, at this point. i know that i will figure it out some way, some how, but the question is WHEN?

for your help and your time. take care and God bless.

Re: uninstall outlook (Office2k ProSP3/Win2k ProSP4)

yup, i am in IMO mode. that's a positive. at least, once all this is over and done with, i will most certainly know how to delete and install anything having to do with office!

thanks so much for your patience with me, and for sharing your wisdom and knowledge. it means a great deal to me to know that there are people like you and the other board members, all willing to share all your hard earned knowledge with neophytes like me. it gives me hope, too. after all, we all started out not knowing anything about these darned things at one point in all our lives!

again. take care and God bless.
