Looking for installation help

OK - I figure that if I don't ask I will never get an answer. I figure that this request will not be successful but stranger things have happened. So , here goes:

We recently got a new machine and want to set up a home network. Although we both are pretty computer savvy we are having trouble with the Linksys wireless networking stuff. We can all hook up to the internet via the cable modem but when we try to network the machines themselves we lose the internet connections (except from the main machine). As there are many things on these machines that would be a nightmare to restore, we decided to spend the bucks and get someone in. But we know no one who we can trust. That is the problem.

Does anyone know anyone in the NYC/LI area who can do this for us? We need someone who REALLY knows what he or she is doing. We have found one person - after years of finding some people who thought they knew more than they really did and advertised themselves as such and who messed us up in a major way - but the one person we found is away for the month (of course). So if anyone knows of anyone who is really good, and is within a reasonable distance of the western north shore of LI, NY (Nassau County - Great Neck to be exact) please let me know. We are about a 35 min drive from midtown manhattan and a 25 min ride on the Long Island Rail Road.

    Hello,

it seems in any case as a good policy to get a back up (tape-numerous cd's-or third pc/HD) or even an disk image of both machines. Just in case things get messed up you are able to reverse the process. A good backup can save you much trouble and agony even in a case of virusses.
