CD with PowerPoint presentation will not register

on other machines... version 2000 on both. Put this to the PowerPoint lounge, but was directed here.

Lots of time and effort, created a nice presentation to use in a class... took it in and the CD would not even register in the machine... Tried saving my presentation down a couple of levels... but still the machine at college where I teach says it cannot find a CD... to please insert one.
The CD which I have copied it onto works fine in my pc at home and opens the presentation correctly. Any ideas on my problem?

    Are you using a CD-R or CD-RW?
If the latter (and maybe even the former?) and the CD has not been finalised (i.e. closed down to prevent further writing), is it possible the college CD player can not read them?

Further to Leif's remarks....some CD-ROM drives have trouble reading certain media because they don't reflect enough light for the laser to track. If a CD must be used, try purchasing a CD-R designed for music playback.. These typically have higher reflectivity and may work where other media fail.

Probably you formatted your CD in UDF format using Windows XP CD recording tools, not third-party programs as Roxio Easy CD Creator or Ahead Nero, and you tried to read this CD on non-XP computer (say, Windows 2000) without UDF Reader installed. To make your CD readable on any CD-ROM, use CDFS format (i.e. usual data CD) with program that came with your CD-RW drive. You can also add PowerPoint viewer to the CD for computers without Microsoft Office installed, and make it able to start automatically ( for details see Woody's Office Watch Vol 8 No 24 ).

I always "finish" the cd at the end.
I have used 2 cds so far - a rewritable and a non rewritable one of 700 mb and one of 650 mb.
The college computers (where I am trying to use the presentation) are not ancient- and are all using windows professional xp.
I do not have an xp computer. I used a 3rd party programme- ie adaptec easy cd creator and I used the data cd setting.
I did like the idea of adding a powerpoint viewer to the cd... but it seems like that won't even help... since the college machines refuse to read the disk.
    Getting slightly frustrated here... lol.

Have you tried opening the CD on a NON college computer?

Also, do have any CD's you have made that can be opened on these college machines?

Now running HP Pavilion a6528p, with Win7 64 Bit OS.

On the college PC, can you navigate to the Device Manager, double-click the CD drive, and then go to Properties.
Is there a checkmark against "Enable Digital Audio"?
If so, try unchecking it then rebooting.

    (Start > Settings > Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Computer Management > Device Manager . . . )

Approaching the problem from a different direction...............

Does the college in question have a website you could upload your file to using an FTP client ??? Check with your professor for permission. If you are the professor, check with your IT department.
