    Unwanted repetition

FP2000: Can anyone suggest why a short line of text within a table cell is replicated 5 or 6 times when the published web is viewed via IE 5.5? The text was entered only once and is not replicated before publishing (i.e. looks ok in normal, html and preview mode. (This error always occurs in the same cell of the table, not in other cells, and re-publishing does not fix............?)

    Do you mean you enter
    <font color=448800>one line of text</font color=448800>
    and you literally get
    <font color=448800>one line of text</font color=448800>
    <font color=448800>one line of text</font color=448800>
    <font color=448800>one line of text</font color=448800>
    <font color=448800>one line of text</font color=448800>
    <font color=448800>one line of text</font color=448800>
    ?

    Can you post the url?

Yes, that's exactly what happens..........Sorry, the URL is at a Government Intranet server inaccessible (hopefully) behind a firewall.

    Re: Unwanted repetition

Can you view the code (when published) and showing incorrectly in IE (View | Source) and compare it against what you see on the HTML view page?

Does the error still occur when viewed used earlier versions of IE?

    Hello Robin,

I agree with Leif, we would first need to check the code and then the second thing is which version of server extensions are you all using.

Last and most import, how are you publishing? Are you going to File > publish web and then going thru http://www.government.gov or are you FTPing information?

With FP2000 it is recommended to use http publishing not FTP.

How you can check server extensions is by browsing to the web site http://www.government.gov/_vti_inf.html, you should get a page that says Frontpage configuration. At this point, go to "View" "souce" in the middle you are looking for a number like 4.0.2.4324. (Win2K server), 4.0.2.4317 (NT 4.0 server), or 4.0.2.2222 (Unix platform). <img src=/S/lightbulb.gif border=0 alt=lightbulb width=15 height=15>

    Hope that helps <img src=/S/smile.gif border=0 alt=smile width=15 height=15>

<img src=/S/thumbup.gif border=0 alt=thumbup width=15 height=15>Thanks for your suggestion. I'll check it out shortly and come back in a while. (The thing is only a minor irritation but I hope to fix it someday. Thanks again.

    Hi
Thanks for this too. (I'm publishing via FP publish facility - via http). Sorry I can't follow up your suggestions for a little while - due to other work pressures (tea-drinking), but will do so as soon as I can. Bye for now.

Re: Unwanted repetition (still need help)

    Leif, albablanca
I checked out your suggestions. Latest is:
The repetition (in fact in 2 different cells) is visible within FP in all views (contrary to what I said earlier). When I correct in Normal view and save it appears to be ok but, after saving, the html view still has the repetition (which itself is not consistent - i.e. sometimes it just repeats part of the text, and this varies each time I do it).
When published, the source code on the server is the same as the html in FP - i.e. same repetition. So FP publishes faithfully....
    My IE is version 5.00.2919.6307IC.
The version of server extensions on the server is 4.0.2.2717
Not sure if this problem was present in earlier versions of IE I used previously........

Well, it sounds to me like your government department has departed from the norm - which is usually in triplicate. <g>
However, if you can post the offending code, we can check it out.
