    Startup items,what are they?

On looking at startup items (run> msconfig> startup) is there anyway of telling what the actual items are? Things like "DellMMKB" or "AOL tray icon" are self explanatory but I've noticed a couple I dont remember before namely LXSUPON & nwiz.exe/install . Ive followed these through to the Registry but that doesnt tell me much except that LXSUPON is to do with Logitech in some way. Presumably my NAV would pick up any nasties along with AD Aware, but there seems a load of things ticked to run that Im not sure I need. Any suggestions on where to look to decipher these things?

There are a few references around that you can check. The Lounge favorite seems to be http://pacs-portal.co.uk/startup_index.htm, which includes a pretty exhaustive list of startup programs. I also like to look at The Task List from the site AnswersThatWork. It's got nice little descriptions next to the entries that they've catalogued, but there are not as many entries.

    Hope that gets you started!

The one I recognize is nwiz, which is the NVidia Desktop Manager.
Not really necessary to have on start-up unless you do a lot of changing of graphics settings.

    Today it is called golf!
