Logitech QuickCam Zoom

I have just bought one of these to use as a webcam, but the highest resolution seems to be 320 x 240, not the 640 x 480 that seems to have been promised all over the website/box/etc. I've downloaded the latest drivers, and still no good. I get a nice picture of myself in Logitech ImageStudio (looking curiously like my thumbnail, to the left!!), but only at 320 x 240.

I've got a 2.5 GHz, 512 MHz, XP Pro Dell with an NVIDIA GeForce4 MX420, which ought to be powerful enough to drive a radio telescope, let alone a webcam!

Has anyone who's got one of these QuickCam Zooms got any ideas, please? Thanks!

A userpic is only 65 by 75 pixels, so 320 by 240 is more than enough. <img src=/S/grin.gif border=0 alt=grin width=15 height=15>

What resolution do you get with YOUR webcam?

Not if your partner wants to observe her daughter and grandchildren half a world away....

A bit more research and contacting Logitech gave the answer:
<font color=blue>"you will be able to get a resolution of 640 x 480 only when you are taking pictures or creating videos"</font color=blue>, said their Technical Support.

So my questions are of those who have webcams:
a) what's the maximum webcam resolution you get?
is this a function of the hardware, or the software (like NetMeeting, Windows Messenger, Yahoo Messenger, etc)?

Thanks!
