    installing w2k

When making a clean installation of a western digital disk, it runs thru the cd and displays the comment "windows is starting up". Then nothing happens. I have checked the hard disk with the western digital check program. Partition magic will partition and format apparently correctly. The virus check setting on the bios is off. The bios identifies the disk correctly and sets up lba. What does w2k see that it doesn't like?

It may be that it doesn't like the partition tables the PMagic set up. I've had that happen once or twice. Is the drive on the approved hardware list for Win2000?

I agree with Mark. I also saw that Windows Setup recognizes Partition Magic-created partitions as "damaged". Boot from CD, destroy C: partition, create a new one (don't install "on unallocated space") and install Windows. If it is not the case, it can be memory problem (it also had happen once). Change the memory stick installed.
