Favourites Listing - how to?? (Outlook 5.5 SP2)

Can anyone tell me how to get a listing of the URL's for my Favourite places. As a consultant, as I move from client to client, I would like to retain knowledge of the good sites. Thanks. <img src=/S/thankyou.gif border=0 alt=thankyou width=40 height=15>

In IE there is a File | Import and Export | Favorites Wizard which creates a nice transportable single HTM file of your Favorites.

There are various utilities around that will convert your favorites into a web page, one of these is http://favoriteshomepage.com/index.htm which saves you messing with someone else's favorites list if you are using clients' computers. Having said that, the import/export option is probably easier to keep up to date.

That's a very handy solution for something that I was working at doing -- I wanted to get a list of my Favourite's url's so I could ping them and add their IP numbers to my Hosts file. With the exported list I stripped out the HTML tags and ended up with a very clean list to work with. A little fiddling and I should be able to drop the list into a ping-ing batch file, redirect the output to a text file, parse it out, and the end result should be easily transferrable into the Hosts file. <img src=/S/smile.gif border=0 alt=smile width=15 height=15>

Good idea, in theory. You may discover, in practice, it's more trouble than it's worth because the IP numbers can change over time. And whenever they do, it's off to edit hosts again. To learn more about whys and wherefores of hosts a visit to Gorilla Design Studio Presents: Using the Hosts File is well worth it.

Re: Favourites Listing - how to?? (Outlook 5.5 SP2)

Fortunately, most of the favourites are relatively stable business or government sites I need to connect to, and having the ability to bypass a frequently unpredictable DNS server has some advantages. Just last week this setup allowed me to continue accessing 'hosted' sites while everything else was largely unaccessible. Highly effective in this case, but your warning is definitely worth taking heed of.

For the future: there is no need to post a series of thank-you posts, especially if there is no message text; one to thank all contributors will do - see <!rule=07>Rule 07<!/rule>.

    Hi Hans,

Pls excuse my ignoring the rules and thanking everyone, but - believe it or not - I couldn't find the way/method/icon to thank all concerned as a group. I know you're probably laughing but could you pls help me and let me know how? Pls keep it REAL simple for a very ancient, newbee to all this. Thanx.

Re: Favourites Listing - Thanks Everybody

    Hi,

There is no special method or icon for thanking a group. In fact, what you did - changing the subject to "Thanks Everybody" - was perfect, only there was no need to repeat the same post several times. You can post the "Thanks Everybody" as a reply to one of the answers, it doesn't matter which one. It will be clear from the subject and (oif present) the text of the reply that it is meant for all who helped.
