File Open Permissions Problem Win2K (Word 97)

Weird problem occurs running Word 97 under Win2K. File, Open, change the file name to c:*.* and we get a message that we don't have permissions for that directory. If we simply select a file from the list in the dialog box, all works fine. We can create and save files to the directory. We just can't seem to specify a wildcard in the filename box.

(Edited by HansV to activate URL - see <!help=19>Help 19<!/help>)

Same thing happens either way. I did discover a post in a Microsoft forum that included a response from a Microsoftie that seems to imply that this is a limitation/feature of using Word97 with Win2K:
