Can't upload .exe files (Windows XP SP1)

Any idea why I can't upload .exe files to my websites? I can upload .jpg's etc, with no problem. I have checked with Yahoo and Angelfire/Lycos as well as my ISP. No restrictions on those.

I am using the Windows XP firewall and ICS, but tested uploading from my client pc on my home network (Win98) and was able to upload fine. Tried disabling the firewall, as well as Norton, to no avail.

I was able to upload an exe about 3 months ago and can't think of anything I have changed since then.

Could I have some service set wrong?

    Any help is appreciated.

What happens when you try? Anything? Are you using XP itself, or a third party FTP program?

Re: Can't upload .exe files (Windows XP SP1)

    Hi,

I was using XP itself and when it timed out, I got an internet explorer error page. I had a copy of that but have deleted it. It was one that was generic stating check with your network administrator about your network/internet settings.

Anyway, since I posted, I found a work around. Instead of trying to upload the file from where I had it saved, I copied it to my Windows XP Shared Documents folder. It uploaded from there with no trouble. I checked and my shared settings are the same on that folder as they are on my other location.

Thanks for answering my post. Not sure if my original post needs to stay here or not, and if not I don't know how to remove it. Perhaps it may help someone else having my trouble.

If you've found a workaround, that's excellent news! That alone would be reason enough to have this post in a public forum. Should you decide to root out the underlying cause and take this further, so much more the value. <img src=/S/smile.gif border=0 alt=smile width=15 height=15>
