After installing the Patches and Updates

    <img src=/S/hello.gif border=0 alt=hello width=25 height=29> Loungers

I try to keep my Windows 2000 installed on my laptop as patched up as possible. But when I look into the c:WinNT folder I see a lot of folders that have names like

    $NtUninstallQ280838$

and this is costing me about 644 MB of precious valuable <img src=/S/money.gif border=0 alt=money width=17 height=15> disk space.

Could I delete all these after I apply the patch?

Will the web site know which patch I have and what I need?

    Thanks for any advice.

    Wassim,

If you remove these folders, you won't be able to uninstall the patches if you have problems. The folders contain the information that is necessary to restore the situation to what it was before you updated.

OK so if every thing is A-OK after a while, and I need disk space, then I could delete them all, and recover the disk space, or maybe off load them to CDs, and then restore them as needed?

I will not lose the patch if I remove them?

If you feel safe, yes, you can archive or even delete these folders. They don't contain the patches themselves, but the previous versions of the files that have been patched, plus information to put them back.
