    H Drives/Partioning/IDE

I have a Soyo Dragon Ultra motherboard with 4 IDE slots. Currently, I have two hard drives on the same cable, one as master and one as slave. I have about 10 or so partions between the two drives on a W98 OS.

If I move the slave drive to its own cable and set it as master, will it screw up my data and the partitions?, and, will it noticeably improve service time to the drive?

No it won't mess up your Data and your Partitions will stay in tact. As for which way is better, well you will or should get an ear full on this one. I personally run my two Hard Drives as Primary Master and Secondary Master, and my DVD and CD-RW as Primary and Secondary Slaves and have never had a problem with that configuration. I personally think it's the best way over all because it allows you to put your Swap File on a Separate IDE Channel, among other things, if need be. And my understanding it is a better setup. BUT, as I said, everybody has there Opinions and you know what they say about that. <img src=/S/nuts.gif border=0 alt=nuts width=15 height=15> As for Service Time, there are a lot of variables to that answer. I think in some cases, Yes, because you don't have all that Data traveling on one Channel when accessing both Drives for different Data. But there again comes the variables.

Thanks Cowboy, just wanted to primarily make sure that the move did not screw anything up. With so much stuff in there (or here however you look at it), another opinion always makes me sleep easier!
