Free electronic 'Post It' Tool?

Hi,

I am looking for any good+free messaging tool which can be used for taking "electronic post-its"
What would be even better is if it has form fields which the person fills out & then when he clicks "Send" it gets sent to the recipient on the LAN.

Do you know of any such utility?

TIA,

m.q.

You've described ATnotes It is supposed to be able send notes to other computers on a LAN. I haven't tested that functionality, but if it works as well as the rest of the ATnotes it should be a "goer".

It could be an overkill, but I like KeyNote too. It can also send (email) notes. It's a lot more comprehensive (complex?), and several steps beyond the "post-it" paradigm, but I tend to use it more than ATnotes.

There were quite a few alternatives around when I found these for myself, so you might get swamped. I can't say whether these two are the best, but they're good enough for me.

Thanks for that. Ideally what I'd like is one which can be used over a LAN for sending those electronic post-its.
I cannot see that functionality with these. You see some of the users may not have email, so there needs to be another way to transport the message.

Maybe using the Messenger service or some shared file on the server or the likes. The recipient should receive some kind of alert on the screen informing him of the message when he logs in or is using his PC.

ATnotes goes close, without the need for email; from help:

The Send To Window is opened through the Send To command in the Main Menu or Note Menu and allows to send a note to another computer in a local TCP/IP network.

You only can send notes to a computer where ATnotes is currently running. It is also necessary that this other computer accepts incoming notes and that it has the same port number, which can be defined in the Network section of the Settings.

The catch seems to be that sender and recipient must have ATnotes running.

Without email, you may need to go the server route, possibly with a simple program to send/receive. Except that sounds an awful lot like a simple mail system . Maybe that's what you were looking for, after all?

I appreciate your feedback.

I think they don't want to give email to some users incase they use it to waste time etc...

Cheers,

Could you give them all a web page to fill out and submit? It can be made to look like a post-it note. But then, a browser is an even better time-waster than e-mail.

You should be able to come up with dozens of "lan messenger" programs by using such terms as "lan, chat, messenger, network, talk, etc", try different combinations, in Google or other internet search engine.

Of course, not all are free, and some use your internet connection while others are strictly local and don't care if you're connected to the internet (my preference0.
Also, some are strictly text message services while others support many file formats, voice, alarm, archive, repeat/schedule, and other features.
Some require substantial setup effort, others setup hands free in seconds.
All such programs, that I've tried, require the program to be running on all participating computers.

Here's a simple, free one....Lan Mail.

Have a Great day!!!
