How 2 unprotect document (Word 2K SR 1)

Is there a way to unprotect a Word document without knowing the password? I have an employment form to fill out and I want to cut and paste whole sections but I can't because the document is protected.

I'm sure that there are password crackers to be found out there on the Internet, but apart from that, no.

    Hi Bill:
If you are talking about password protected for forms, you can get at the information by shift+right clicking the document in Windows Explorer & choosing Open With. Then open it with Wordpad. You may lose formatting.
    Cheers,

Didn't work. The resulting .rtf file is still protected.

That worked, but as you say, it loses a lot of formatting. Too bad, as the formatting is important. I have to print the document and sign it, so it needs to look the way they want it to look.

Can you post the document? I promise not to apply.

Can you either (1) zip it down to 100K or (2) post a link to the form on the web?

You should remove all the personal info. from the attachment, especially since it's not required to answer your question.

Yes. Here is the document. What I want to do is be able to cut and paste whole sections of the employment history.

Good point. Thanks. I have deleted the old post and submitted a new one with a different version of the document.

Here's the result of my RTF procedure. When you open the RTF it's protected but the password is not preserved so you can unprotect it yourself. I wasn't clear on that, was I (this comes up so rarely, I forgot!).

(Edited by jscher2000 on 29-Jul-03 11:43. Last step clarified.)
Yes, but don't tell anyone else:
    1.
Save as RTF.

Close the document.

Open the RTF file.
The document is protected but can be unprotected without a password.
Some details might not convert properly, but the essentials will.
