Format numbers in tables (Office XP)

I was showing someone how to use tables to easily format a Word document. We put some items in column 1 and some prices in column 2. At the bottom of column 2 I showed them how to insert a fomula to total the items and select the currency format. However; while I can format the formula results, I cann't find anywhere to format the numbers in the rest of the table. Is it just me, or is that strange?

A table in Word is just text. There is no Format property for numbers in a table (formulas excepted). If you need number formatting, embed an Excel table in the Word document.
