    Optional clause in contract (2000 / 2002)

    We need to make a protected template for a contract. In some cases there's an optional clause. For example, if the contract currency is in any amount other than US Dollars, there needs to be a clause (automatically numbered) that states, for example if the currency is Euros:

    x.x The contract currency is Euros.

    The only text that should vary is the name of the currency. If the currency is in US dollars, the clause should not appear at all. Anyone think of a reasonably simple way to do this?

    In some cases, the clause will be a long paragraph (too long to include as the default text in a text form field) that the user needs to be able to edit. Good way to do that?

    Thanks a million. -- Val

    As you probably know, you can protect a document for Forms and leave individual paragraphs unprotected by surrounding them with Continuous section breaks (and leaving that section unprotected). But the harder question is how to insert a variable paragraph of information in an automatically numbered document....

    If the difference between the paragraphs for different countries/currencies is minimal

    Hi Val,

    Yoy could use an ASK field to prompt the user for the currency, and combine this with an IF test to determine whether to display some text. For example:

    {QUOTE{ASK Currency "What currency do you want to use?" d $US}{IF{Currency}= $US "" "<font color=red>Note: You need to insert a paragraph break here</font color=red>The contract currency is {Currency}."}}

    The ASK field field defaults to $US and no output is displayed unless the user chooses another currency. If you put this at the end of the previous paragraph, it would insert a new one with the required text if the user chooses another currency.

    The problem is, the field's output isn't editable except by editing the field itself (which largely defeats the purpose), and I don't believe you can get it to conditionally insert a para number based on a Style. You may be able to do so with a SEQ field, though.

    Cheers
