Personal.xls (Excel 2000 SR-1)

I have set up a personal.xls to house my macros. When I try to open it by itself, I get a message saying that it is already open and that I cannot open two files with the same name. The problem is that this is the first time today I have tried to open anything in Excel. Any insight that anyone can provide is greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Personal.xls is opened when you start Excel, only hidden. You can get at the macros by activating the Visual Basic Editor (Alt+F11) and expanding Personal.xls in the Project Explorer (Ctrl+R). If you really need to see Personal.xls (there is little reason to do so, unless you want to attach a tool bar), you can unhide it using the Window | Unhide... option. Don't forget to hide it again before quitting Excel.

Hans, thanks for your reply. I think I got it. What happens is that when I open Excel to open personal.xls, it is already open, but hidden, so when I try to open it specifically, it is, in fact, already open and that is what Excel is trying to tell me.

Re: Personal.xls (Excel 2000 SR-1)

Here's a quick shortcut to the macros:

Open the Macro Selector (Alt-F8)
Specify Personal.xls if you want/need to ("Macros in
Select the macro in question (one click)
Press Step Into.

The macro is actually running, but you can stop that. This shortcut is a bit faster than Unhiding the spreadsheet, or opening the Macro Editor then opening the object tree, etc.....
