    Search Default (6.0.2...)

On the top of my IE window is an icon that looks like a magnifying glass. When I click it I get a narrow window on the left that is more or less MSN Search. Is there any way I can make this Google instead, or is that a dumb idea?

    CAC,

Not sure about changing that icon, but the better thing would be to add the Google toolbar to IE. It adds a Google search bar to the top of IE and has some really neat features to it besides being convenient.

    Go to: GoogleBar to download it. <img src=/S/cool.gif border=0 alt=cool width=15 height=15>

The Google site has the registry modifications that will do that for you. The Google Search Bar is another option -- if you want more tool bars.

I found a link that describes the registry modifications here:

<!post=Browser Extension Manager,278482>Browser Extension Manager<!/post> looks like it could do what you want, but I find GoogleBar, as suggested by Bob, works well for me.

Another option could be to switch to a browser that integrates Google search, like Avant Browser. I'm not a convert (yet), but check the discussion in <!post=Avant browser updated,278272>Avant browser updated<!/post>.
