Dbase connectivity (Access 97 - XP)

I'm having a difficult time connecting to Dbase tables via Access or Crystal Reports.
We have XP and have an Office XP suite with Access 97.

Problem is, when I try to connect to a DBF, I get the following error:
Couldn't find installable ISAM. (Error 3170)

My neighbor who also has XP has Access 2000. He has no problem connecting to the dbfs.

    Any ideas?

What version dBase tables are you trying to attach to and were the ISAMs for dBase installed on the machine with 97?

    DBase IV
I don't know about the ISAMs, as it is a stripped down version of the actual install disk.

In Access, if you try to link to a file and click on the "Files of Type" dropdown in the dialog, what versions of dBase are listed? If dBase IV is on the list, then you should be able to link to the file. If you can't then the suggestion in the knowledgebase is that you either have invalid information in the registry or a missing or corrupted dll. The dll used by Access 97 to link to dBase is Msxbse35.dll, so you might be able to look for that file on your machine and if found, rename it. Then do a reinstall of Access 97 and make sure you check the dBase ISAM driver to be installed.
