Eileen,

You know what would be real nice? A one-click button to "mark as read" an entire thread. I bet I'm not alone in keeping the "orange" out of the Subject headers in order to remind myself that I'm "caught up" in my Lounge reading. Sometimes a thread is of no interest, and I'd just like to mark the whole thing as read?

Is this now possible? If not, is it a possibility? Thanks.

Hi Kevin:
I think it's a good idea, too. I usually click each thread in a forum I'm interested in (to see what it's about), which does mark the thread read. However, when further posts come in to the same thread, it would be nice to mark it. Better yet, I wish there were a way to mark it "ignored".

A three-click solution (if that helps):

.Open the thread
.Click on the "Flat Mode" button (the one which looks like a bookshel on its side)
.If there's more than one page, click on the "View All" button at the bottom

Flat mode is the default so unless you've changed your Profile to Threaded then you can skip one step!

I found flat mode too confusing. A "flat mode" in the middle of a diageam (ie, all texts whowing which replies related to which texts) might have been less so- but hardly worth while.

I have IE4.0 and when reading threads in "flat mode" I can not only see all the replies but also, next to the subject there is text that tells you what post you are and what post your are referring to, similar to [Post 2499/ re:2493]

If you can see it, next to the subject in this post it should read [Post: somenumber/ Re: 2499] because that is the post I replied to. [img]/w3timages/icons/alien.gif[/img]

Maybe this is a dumb question (well, I haven't used up my quota for the day, OK?), but it you can move a thread--all right, not everybody can, but the principle remains--why can't you flag it?

Because I'm the Mommy and I say so! Seriously though, it would entail more calls to the database and waste bandwidth, plus it's easy to ignore it until you've read the ones you want and then Mark the whole board as Read on your way out.

Geoff, I avoid the compromise between flat & threaded modes, and use them concurrently, especially when a long thread has unravelled:

1. <LI>Move the threaded window to the left of the screen and make it tall & narrow.
   <LI>Right click the <Flat Mode> button and select <Open Link in New Window> from the menu.
   <LI>Position the flat window to the right of the threaded window.
   <LI>Now you can see all the texts, and track their context by reference to "Posted by" & "Posted on", as needed.

This works best with short, to the point, subjects and higher screen resolutions (800x600 min?). It gets messy if the subject wraps in the threaded window (a display option to "wrap/don't wrap" the subject would help).

Thanks for that. It's a useful way of doing things.

I was surprised to see my name in such a recent thread-I haven't contributed a lot lately.

But then I saw that my post was in January 2001- This incarnation of the lounge was less than a month old then.
