MEMORY / IRQ ERROR

I'm running a 600mhz p3 laptop with Windows 2000, and I got an error. (which I don't recall the exact wording), where my whole screen went out of graphics mode, turned blue and the top half of was filled with closely spaced text depicting a whole bunch of addresses. There was some mention of irq referencing, a mention that hardware might not have been set up correctly, and and an indication that, If this is the first time I'm running Windows 2000 (which it's NOT, by far), I should reboot into Safe mode. It seemed to occur when I had my wireless D-Link 650 network card in a PCMCIA slot; it happened when I was navigating around in IE 6) I also tried to download bunch of email, and it also occurred during the download (although I don't know how long the system was running before it happened while downloading the email; I just left the system running overnight and discovered the error message the following morning ). I did try using the computer without the card and didn't seem to experience any problems. This whole thing only started last evening--I, generally, haven't had any problems . Does anyone have any idea what might be going on and how I might try and troubleshoot it? Can a pcmcia card go bad and cause this kind of thing? I was, prior, having some problems with my wireless connection periodically--the signal strength seemed to have died down to almost nothing, and there were times when the card was not detected. I thought it was just that at certain times of the day, there's more interference than at others. The screen I got was, by the way, very distinctive (and got me quite concerned--it was one of those "serious errror" type screens.)

Thanks,
Steve

Re: MEMORY / IRQ ERROR

If you are running SP4 you will have a problem with the D-Link card. I have a random "will not connect when coming out of hibernation or standby" and solved it by going back to SP3. D-Link is aware of this issue and is trying to correct it. This sounds like the answer you would get from Microsoft on any issue. If you are at the SP3 level try the latest driver (it will work with the old D-Link utility). You should also try installing the latest video drivers as they are the culprit for many things. Last but not least, your card could be going off the deep end. Call D-Link and if it is and you are still under warranty you will get a replacement card.

Re: MEMORY / IRQ ERROR

Well, regarding "going off the deep end", I stopped going on the internet (using the card), and did not see that error message a single time. When I started using the card again, the problem resurfaced, causing me to want to believe that it's the card that's faulty. The only thing I DON'T understand is how the D-Link technician I spoke with on the phone (who has been with the D-Link company for over 8 months) told me he's never seen this type of error. I think the error I got is what they call a "STOP" error (it said "Stop" on the top of the screen :-) )

Thank you,
Steve Weber
