PST file size (Office 2000)

Hi

I'm surprised at the size of some of my PST files. For example:
<UL><LI>I took a PST file of 11.5MB (containing 1200 Outlook items).
<LI>Deleted all large attachments from items in the PST (I left text files, shortcuts, and similar).
<LI>Compacted.
<LI>Nett result is that the PST has only reduced to 9.5MB[/list]Does this sound right? Or should I be able to reduce the file further?

If most of your PST content is in Calendar or Journal in the PST, you may not be able to do much unless you archive them. But compression seems to have some limitations. Try this (first make a copy of your PST for backup purposes via File Explorer): create a second PST, drag about half the old PST contents to it, compress the original PST, then drag the contents back from the new PST and delete the new PST. See if it helps.

And, I'm kidding you here Dale, quit complaining about an 11MB PST file. I had to split my work PST into two, now one of 120 MB and one of 130 MB, when I got near the 2 GB limit. And my Calendar is on the server, so it's not included. <img src=/S/grin.gif border=0 alt=grin width=15 height=15>
