Spam Previewer (Redemption VBA Sample) (2000/2002)

I know there are preview utilities out there, but I made one that fit my particular PST structure and spam handling methods. For potential future reference in your use of the Redemption library, I'm attaching the form (exported from Outlook VBA). It can be invoked with code such as:

Sub MessageSniffer()
' Inspects body of an unopened message for spamliness
Load frmMsgInspector
frmMsgInspector.Show
Unload frmMsgInspector
Set frmMsgInspector = Nothing
End Sub

It is designed to show the message selected in the Inbox or Junk Mail folder and various other interesting things. It requires that you (A) install the Redemption DLL (available from http://www.dimastr.com/redemption/) and ( set a reference both to Redemption (SafeOutlook library) and, for the feature to display a message's called URL, Microsoft Internet Controls (shdocvw.dll). That latter feature uses the Anonymizer, but if you retrieve a URL that contains a code or other information personally identifying you, the anonymizing doesn't really disguise you.

Any comments are welcome.

You may have to seek Redemption for introducing <img src=/S/groan.gif border=0 alt=groan width=16 height=15> "spamliness" <img src=/S/evilgrin.gif border=0 alt=evilgrin width=15 height=15>
<font face="Comic Sans MS" color="blue">TimOz</font>
<img src=/S/flags/Finland.gif border=0 alt=Finland width=30 height=18> <img src=/S/flags/Australia.gif border=0 alt=Australia width=30 height=18>

Big whoops in my code?

The Redemption documentation warns that the use of certain extended MAPI calls may cause problems with Outlook 2002, and therefore the following line needs to be added to the above code before such objects are set = nothing:

utils.CleanUp ' Added 9/6/2003
If Not (utils Is Nothing) Then Set utils = Nothing

I hope this solves a number of devilish problems I've been having in Outlook XP. Time will tell...
