office xp shortcut bar (xp pro/sp-2)

How do I get the office shorcut bar to appear on the desktop for office xp pro? I used to type msoffice.exe in the find window with office 97 on a windows 98 machine. Now office pro is installed on a windows xp machine and the shortcut bar did not appear. The search did not work.

    Thanks,

    Mike--

There are two ways to get the shortcut bar back on your desktop. They are numbered #1 and #2 in the screenshot below. If you have already installed Office Tools, you can just go to Programs Microsoft Office Tools>Click Shortcut Bar; it may ask for you to pop in the CD and you'll have it. Another way is to go to Add Remove>Click on Microsoft Office>Click Change Remove on Left>You'll get into the Office Setup even without the CD in>Click Next>Select Microsoft Office Tools>Open it Up by Clicking the Plus and You'll have the screen shot below and can install from there (will probably ask for the CD).

    Hi Mike,

SMBP has shown you how to get the Office Shortcut bar in Office XP. I would like to add that you can use the Quick Launch toolbar in the Task Bar as an alternative. Since it lives inside the Task Bar, it takes up less space. To display it if you don't do so already, right-click an empty part of the Task Bar, and select Toolbars | Quick Launch. You can drag shortcuts to the Quick Launch toolbar, rename them, delete them etc.
(Note: the shortcuts in the Quick Launch toolbar are stored in the folder Cocuments and Settings<username>Application DataMicrosoftInternet ExplorerQuick Launch)
