    Auto Correct (Word 2000 SR-1 / WXP)

    Are Auto Correct entries stored in a separate file (i.e. table) somewhere? If so, can this table be edited directly?

    I have a sister-in-law that does medical transcriptions, and she is converting from Word Perfect to Word and wants to know how to load tons of complicated auto-text medical terms. It would be most convenient if this could be done by, say, direcly accessing a table (or loading it from some existing table) rather than go through the one-at-a-time entry in the Tools/Auto Correct dialog box.

    The MVPs Word site is always worth a look, and I think this may assist?

    Re: Auto Correct (Word 2000 SR-1 / WXP)

    Hi Chuck:
    Just saw this post. I don't know whether there's a way to load autocorrect terms from Word Perfect to Word. The link that was provided talks about transferring AutoCorect entries & I'm sure Word Perfect wouldn't be using normal.dot or Office .ACL files. I also don't know if you're really referring to AutoText. However, if she has some sort of table with corresponding meanings, perhaps this macro from Ed Weber would help:<pre>Sub AutoCorrectMultiEntries()
    'Ed Weber 12 Oct 02
    'List must be in form
    'Abbreviation <tab> Value
    'To check for previous use,
    'remove apostrophes from lines between asterisks
    Dim strArrayTarget() As String
    Dim strTemp As String: Dim xEntry As AutoCorrectEntry
    Dim myCount As Long
    myCount = 0
    Selection.HomeKey unit:=wdStory, Extend:=wdMove
    While Selection.End <> ActiveDocument.Range.End - 1
    Selection.EndKey unit:=wdLine, Extend:=wdExtend
    If Selection.Text = vbCr Then
    Selection.MoveLeft unit:=wdCharacter, Count:=2
    GoTo Skip
    End If
    Selection.End = Selection.End - 1
    strArrayTarget = Split(Trim(Selection.Text), vbTab)
    Rem ***********start check for entry*******************
    For Each xEntry In AutoCorrect.Entries
    If xEntry.Name = strArrayTarget(0) Then
    response = MsgBox("The autocorrect entry, " & strArrayTarget(0) & _
    ", already exists. Replace it?", vbYesNo)
    If response = vbNo Then
    GoTo Skip
    End If
    End If
    Next xEntry
    Rem ***********end check for entry*********************
    AutoCorrect.Entries.Add Name:=strArrayTarget(0), _
    Value:=strArrayTarget(1)
    myCount = myCount + 1
    Skip:
    Selection.MoveRight unit:=wdCharacter, Count:=2
    Wend
    MsgBox myCount & " autocorrect entries added"
    End Sub</pre>

    Re: Auto Correct (Word 2000 SR-1 / WXP)

    Hi Phil,

    So, if I understand this macro correctly (and I'm not an expert in this). I enter a list of auto correct entries something like this:

    iaw <tab> in accordance with
    bfl <tab> before the law

    etc.

    in the current document and then run the macro and it imports the list into Auto Correct?

    I'm just not quite sure how to run it, but that's my best interpretation.

    Hi Chuck:
    That's my understanding. I haven't tested it. I would certainly try it out on a couple of scattered entries to see how it handled before using it on a whole slew of entries.

    Hi Phil,

    It works like a champ! Thanks for the advice.
