Word changes date you type (2002, but probably any)

Having set up a new profile, I find that Word is now changing the date when typed as (say) 5th August 2003 to 2003/08/05.

I think this must be one of the autocorrect options, but I can't find it and don't know the appropriate words to use when searching on (say) the MVP Word site.

Undoubtedly someone can instantly point me to the answer! Thanks!

Re: Word changes date you type (2002, but probably any)

If you look carefully, you will see that Word proposes several changes. If I type 5 august 2003, Word suggests "5 August 2003" as soon as I have typed "5 au". When I get as far as "augu", it just suggests "August". When I type the space after "august", it suggests "5 August 2003" again, and when I have typed "2003", it suggests "2003-08-05" (the hyphen being the date separator on my system). Each time, I can press Enter to accept the suggestion, or continue typing to ignore it.

If you don't like this, select Insert | AutoText | AutoText... or Tools | AutoCorrect Options....
In the AutoText tab, clear the "Show AutoComplete suggestions" check box.
This will also turn off suggestions for AutoText entries. You can still insert those by typing the abbreviation and pressing F3.
There seems to be no way to keep suggestions for AutoText, but not for dates. <img src=/S/sad.gif border=0 alt=sad width=15 height=15>

    Hans

Your description exactly matched what my partner observes on her home machine.

But when I tried to get Word to exhibit this behaviour at work an hour or so back, I couldn't, even though the tick in the "Show Autocomplete suggestions" box was present. I had to turn it off, save it, then turn it on again before it exhibited the complained-of "helpful" behaviour.

Thanks for the fix, which is by no means intuitive!
