Win XP newbie (Win XP SP1)

Will be getting a new mb + cpu and will upgrade to Win XP (Probably Home).
My existing Win 2000 system's cd burner uses Nero.
I believe that Win XP has burning software included. Does this included s/w perform as both a cd-r burner and a packet writer (like Roxio's Direct CD or Nero's InCD) or only the former?

If I want to use my Nero software - and to avoid conflicts - what files in Win XP must I not install or uninstall?

My burner also supports Mt Rainier. Is this support included in Win XP? ...In Win XP with SP1? Or...?

Dunc,

The burner that comes with XP is a rather rudimentary one, so if you are using Nero you should be able to just install it after the XP installation is complete. Use Nero as you have before.

If Mt Rainier is compatible with 2000 you should also be OK with XP. <img src=/S/cool.gif border=0 alt=cool width=15 height=15>

IMHO, if you use Win2k advanced features on networking or security you should consider XP Pro. See Which Edition Is Right for You? .

When you put in whichever version of XP you chose (just click back through the XP section) there are a number of threads on every link you want to compare features, and get Nero, turn off the native XP burner which has considerably less features than Nero so there will be no conflicts with Nero.

Right. In Administrative Tools>Services, scroll down and stop and then disable (or set to manual) the IMAPI CD Com Service. This is a subset of sorts of the Roxio burner and can cause conflicts with Nero if it's left on. You don't need it if you use Nero, so turn it off.

Thanks for replies. Appreciate suggestion joeperez but don't need sophisticated networking & security features (home/hobby setup) for business/enterprise- no 'state' secrets. Besides, Home is significantly cheaper.
