Personal.xls not running at Excel startup (10.4302.4219 SP2)

I have a macro stored in my personal.xls, which is in its Win98SE default directory, C:/Windows/Application Data/Microsoft/Excel/XLSTART. In theory, personal.xls should open but remain hidden whenever I start Excel, and I should be able to run any macro stored in personal.xls by using the keyboard shortcut I've assigned to it.

In practice, I'm getting no response to my shortcut and have to open personal.xls manually in order to run the macro. What's going on here, and how do I fix it?

    Thanks,
    Terry

If you start Excel the normal way, and activate the Visual Basic Editor (Alt+F11), is VBA Project (Personal.xls) listed in the Project Explorer (Ctrl+R)?
If not, Personal.xls is probably stored in the wrong XLSTART folder. It should probably be in a folder that has your username somewhere in its path, e.g.

    C:WindowsProfiles<username>Application DataMicrosoftExcelXLSTART

    or

    C:WinNTProfiles<username>Application DataMicrosoftExcelXLSTART
    (for Windows NT)

    or

    Cocuments and Settings<username>Application DataMicrosoftExcelXLSTART
(for Windows XP, and probably Windows 2000, too)

I had this problem in the past and while I can't remember how I created the problem I know how I fixed it. (With help from somebody here).

Go to Help | About Microsoft Excel and select the Disabled Items button. When I had the probelm, Personal.xls was listed and i simply enabled it.

    Thank you, Hans.

There was another XLSTART directory in my Microsoft Office/Office 10 directory. Copying personal.xls to that directory solved the problem. Don't know why Excel didn't create personal.xls there in the first place.
