Problems with regedit & msconfig (Win XP)

I am trying to disable a file that is giving us trouble and may be the cause of this problem. Going to Run/msconfig and the dialog box opens for 2 seconds and then closed immediately. Our Pop-up killer is off. Any suggestions?

Does it block the Task Manager, too? If not, you could try to kill any suspicious processes that could be closing down these windows. If so, you might have to restart Windows is a different mode...if that's still supported in XP...

    Kathy--

Don't know what the program is, but you wouldn't be disabling it--you'd keep it from running on start. I think but if after a reboot msconfig is still behaving this way it might be corrupt, because like everything else in Windows, it can. You can see if this will fix it:

To extract: Open a command prompt window. Insert your XP CD into the drive and enter the following command:

EXPAND -R X:I386MSCONFIG.EX_ Z:WINDOWSPCHEALTHHELPCTRBINARIES. This will extract a new copy of the MSCONFIG.EXE from the CD.

Thanks to Kelly's XP for this fix--give it a try.
