    External HD

I am shopping for an external hard drive usb2/Firewire. Any recommendations in the 40 GB range, with which software bundle to use for backup.
    Thanks

If portability and power drain are issues, see this old thread. If not, there are cheaper options.

I've got the 80GB USB version of that drive.
Comes with Dantz Retrospect Express, but you should get the full Retrospect Pro.
Having the Retrospect Express qualifies you for the upgrade price.
I purchased both the drive and software at http://www.provantage.com/.

    Re: External HD

You may use the external hard drive enclosure with a free back up software.

The cost of 3.5" USB2.0/firewire aluminum enclosure is about $60, including shipping.

For the hard drive, it is not too difficult to get an 80GB for about $55 after rebates or a 120GB for about $70 after rebates.

    For the software, Karen

Newegg appears to have lower prices for the drive enclosures.

The $60 I mentioned, including shipping, was for the 3.5" aluminum enclosure. Of course, you can find the plastic ones with lower price.
