Reformatting 98 and 95

Hi folks, I was about to finally reformat my older 98 machine after collecting all the drivers and backing up etc. When I asked the machine to format, it very logically said "Windows cannot format this drive because it contains files in use by Windows". Does this mean I have to format from DOS? Sorry to ask another dumb question.

Yes. The only thing you can format from within Windows is a separate Partition { the one Windows is not on} or a another Hard Drive.

Hi Cowboy, disregard my previous deleted post (in case you received an email notification), I found what I need on the net relating to reformatting using DOS. Thanks for answering my original question, helps a lot to understand the basics before making blunders, once I searched correctly relating to dos it was easy to find.
