AdAware_Spybot vs. PestPatrol

At one time I used OptOut until Steve Gibson stopped supporting it and suggested AdAware. From reading these forums I have also been using Spybot in parallel. These two apps run together seem to clean house very well.

I was talking with an IT consultant who had never heard of AdAware and insisted that PestPatrol was the best product of its kind on the market.

Does anyone have any comments or input on this? I know that these applications have been discussed many times in the past and I dont want to bring up old news, but with the search function disabled and the culling of posts, I could not find any posts that compared these apps. I am curious as to what the Loungers think is the better product.

Yep....

Adaware... (Standard Version)
Spybot S&D... (Donation Ware)
Pest Patrol... $40.00 US

The Pest Patrol website, see link above, only compares their software to Adaware....I believe it is much more comparable to Spybot S&D. Which is better? I would vote for Spybot S&D.....but then thats only MHO

Have a Great day!!!

Would you buy a used car from this man? Regardless of which product is best, if a consultant told me "A" is best, and admitted he hadn't even heard of the alternative "B". I'd invite him to take his consultancy elsewhere.

Seems your IT consultant thinks that if it doesn't cost money, then it's not worth considering?
A bit blinkered?

Maybe we use the word IT a little loosely.

Nothing like a good chuckle to start a day. I too thought that it was a little strange that he had never heard of AdAware. Maybe he is coming from the mind set of considering free or donation ware inferior to a product that costs some amount of money. Being an Excel hack and not a real "IT" type, I had to ask the question.

In response to my query, the Loungers, as always, provided quick, helpful and entertaining responses.

Re: AdAware_Spybot vs. PestPatrol

Hmmm. I was really interested in this, but all of the comments (other than Ken's) seem to be about the IT "expert", rather than the relative merits of the 3 utilities. I gravitate toward Spybot (although I run all 3). Anyone else have a preference?

I thought Ken's post said it all?
