Address Book?

I'm asking this here because this is the machine I'm setting up but it's a general Windows question really.

How does Windows decide what to call the WAB file? This machine has called it "HP Approved Customer.wab" - on my old machine it's called "Eileen Wharmby.wab". How do I go about changing it?

Re: Address Book?

Eileen,
The file name is based on the setup name at the time windows is installed. Because these OEM's do a mass copy of the systems on these hard drives this how they do it.
What I would do is , on the OLD machine export the WAB and then on the new machine do a import. I believe this can be do from OE, I have been using Outlook 2000 since it came out.

What OS is on the OLD machine?

Since you are using Me, I think you can go into Control panel, Users and make a user named Eileen. Thisis a wizard that will help do this. The difference between your old OE and the new OE my want to import instead of copy the old wab over the new one.
Hope this helps.

Now running HP Pavilion a6528p, with Win7 64 Bit OS.

Re: Address Book?

I can import my old Win95 Address Book but I'd like to have a reasonable name too. If I make a user named Eileen will that automatically create a new Eileen.wab?

OR - Do you think it would be OK to edit the Registry?

Re: Address Book?

I just used the 'User' wizard, it turns out it forces you to use the loggin window and a password. If you have NOT done this yet do NOT run it. It sets up a profile for that login, including new desk top, my documents and etc.

Do you think it would be OK to edit the Registry? YES

This should be the best thing to do. But I would still do a export and import after you get the new name in thre.

I think I tried that somewhere along the line - but it's gone now...

I'll go the editing the registry route.
