VBA Merge with Data Source screws Word XP on close (MS Office XP SP-2)

We are creating a VBA program that dynamically links a data source (Access mdb file) with a merge document. All works ok, but when the user eventually closes the last Word document, Word freezes - the processor usage goes up to 96% and the only way out is to kill the Word process.

Does anyone have any clue what is happening here?

You haven't told us how you dynamically link the data source.

You haven't responded to Hans' question, but my experience tells me it is Access that causes the problem, as it has started the Word session. To avoid this, we usually code a close of the word document in the code that executes the merge.
