    No System Sounds

Checking this for a friend using Win ME. He gets no chime at start-up or shut down, no system sounds of any kind. Yet we know the sound card and speakers are fine as the machine happily plays any audio CD inserted in the drive. But there are no sounds for any error messages, even sound driven by a web page (like a dictionary that enables pronunciation to be heard) does not come thru the speakers. We checked all the "mute" settings and volume controls. What have we missed?
    Thanks for any help

    Re: No System Sounds

    Hi wensail

It sounds like his "Event Sounds" are turned off. If he's using a "Theme Manager", he can check there...otherwise, I'm not sure where to look. If no one else jumps in, I'll check tonight when I'll have access to my ME computer.

    Have a Great day!!!

    Re: No System Sounds

    Hi again

    Try this......
Right click on a vacant part of your desktop (not on an icon).
Select "Properties". A window titled something like "Display Properties" should open.
    Select the "Themes" tab.
Scroll through the "Settings" window to find "Sound events" and ensure that it is checked.
Click "OK" at bottom of "Display Properties" window.

This should turn ON your sound events.

    Have a Great day!!!

    Re: No System Sounds

Ken, Many thanks for your speedy reply! We will try your steps to investigate. I won't see the guy until next week to give him the good news and try to look at his machine settings, but I will get back and post success (I hope!). You were generous to take time to check it out and advise.
