link attachment instead of sending the attachment (Outlook XP)

I work at a law firm and we e-mail a lot of documents to each other through the network. Is there a way to e-mail a document from the network by using a link instead or a shortcut to the document so that the server does not get so bogged down?

If you send e-mail in HTML format, you can use Insert/Hyperlink to insert a link. By default, it will be an HTTP link, but you can select FILE from the dropdown list.

Shortcuts as attachments will probably be blocked by Outlook security, unless you installed (for example) Outlook Attachment Options to modify the list of blocked attachment types.

I think all one needs to do is type in the full network path to the needed file, i.e., serverfolder/folder/sub-folder...../filename.ext.

Check with your IT support for the correct format for your network.

Now running HP Pavilion a6528p, with Win7 64 Bit OS.

But make sure that you don't end up with the issues arising on the "Internal E-mail -- Links to MS Word documents" starting at <post#=283812>post 283812</post#>! HTH

Thanks! I had to laugh though. The post you referred me to is our Marketing Director at our law firm. I guess I'll get together with him and see if we can solve the problem.

    It did look REMARKABLY similar!

Aside from the technical wrinkles, a lot of solving problems is getting people to talk to each other. It's nice to know that the Lounge can act as a common source of reference to some rather different folks!
