Adjust spacing above line of text (Word 2000, SR1)

In the paragraph dialog box, you can adjust the spacing above and below. I would like to modify styles for Headings 2-->8 so that the tagged text has 8 pt. above and 4 pts. below. BUT I want it to be smart enough NOT to put the 8 pts. above when the tagged text is at the top of a page. Is this possible? If so, how?

    Thanks in advance,
    Georgette

Go to Tools -> Options -> Compatibility and then check boxes like 'Suppress extra line spacing at top of page' and perhaps also 'Suppress Space Before after a hard page or column break'.

THANK YOU, THANK YOU... I knew that Word must have a way of handling this problem, I just did not know where, in Word, to look! I can always count on the Lounge to help me out.
