    sudden shutdown now restart problem!

My computer was accidentally shutdown because someone (not me!) hit the power strip off button. Now when I rebooted, it when into scandisk and goes to 55% and stops! What would be the best way to get restarted and back safely to my "desktop"?? Thanks for your help!! <img src=/S/smile.gif border=0 alt=smile width=15 height=15>

Have you tried booting into Safe Mode?

Hi Cowboy! I couldn't get scandisk to end. It just hung at 55% so I finally just bit the bullet and did the 3 finger salute a few times until it rebooted on its own. I missed the "safe mode" point in the boot up sequence so I let it just it finish reloading windows, etc. By golly, this time it went straight to "my desktop" without a hitch. I "explored" within the 'window' folder but didn't see anything out of line. The HD still has plenty of space on it. Did a system file check and they are fine except for a missing "setupx.dll" that doesn't seem to be on the Windows disk? Not sure that is a major problem, however. I probably should do the scandisk thingie sometime, but I don't have time to horse with it today! Is there anything other item I should be concerned about with this baby?
    Thanks for your response!!

Windows98 can get into a state where it insists on running Scandisk every time you reboot until you let it run to completion.

Next time you have some free time you should try running Scandisk from Windows, then reboot and see if it runs again. If this won't run to completion then boot from your Windows 98 startup floppy (create one right now if you haven't already done so) and run Scandisk from that.
