Windows XP & Norton Anti-virus (WindowsXP home)

My problem isn't a Microsoft problem but any help would be appreciated. My husband recently installed Windows XP home version on our computer. Last week, after getting and getting rid of the worm blaster virus, I realized that Norton anti-virus doesn't work because hubby didn't uninstall it before installing Windows XP. I uninstalled the program but now I can't re-install it. I got directions from Symantec but they are confusing and haven't been much help. I actually think I screwed something else up because now I cannot do searches anymore either.

Don't panic. First of all, make sure that Blaster worm was completely removed. Run W32.Blaster.Worm Removal Tool once again. Then restart your computer, insert Symantec AntiVirus Installation CD (previously known as Norton) and reject autostart option. Instead click Start | Control Panel | Add or Remove Programs and click "Add New Programs" icon on the left pane. Then click "CD or floppy" button and follow the wizard. Everything will go as it suppose to be, just be careful and read the messages before clicking "Next", "Yes" or "OK" buttons.

Re: Windows XP & Norton Anti-virus (WindowsXP home)

Thanks for the advice; I followed your instructions. Right at the end of the installation process I Norton icon appears on my desktop, then the I see the words "roll back" in the dialogue box and the icon disappears. Both the Norton and the Symantec folders are in the program files but there is nothing on the desktop or in the Start menu. I was able to get the live update but I don't know where to go to do a virus scan as I can't find it anywhere and I am no longer able to do searches (the "bubble" with the search choices appears but it is tiny and has no options). I'd appreciate more ideas. Thanks again!
