    Word hangs in Outlook

    I'm posting this here, although it might be an Outlook 97 issue.
    When Word 97 is selected as the e-mail editor, it sometimes hangs the app with the message that there is insufficient memory (128M), and can only be fixed by turning off the editing function, and shutting down Outlook. There is no set pattern for this, although I often have multple files open in PPT, and XLS.When Outlook is re-started, Word can be re-initiated and works fine until....
    I'll post this in Outlook too.

    I used to score all sorts of problems with word when I had it selected as my email editor. Once I unselected it, life was sweet. Fai accompli unforunately.

    General advice I've seen tracks the above. You don't want to use Word as your e-mail editor. It will mess up your Word settings. Also, you don't, by chance, have Journal active to track your use of Word?

    Thanks for the response.
    No, I don't have the Journal selected, it takes up too much memory in the mailbox, and 10M is the ceiling on the network. I don't get the signature and spellcheck without, so I guess I'll live with the hangs. <img src=/S/bingo.gif border=0 alt=bingo width=15 height=22>

    Hi Rick,

    FWIW, this is one of the reasons that Word 2000 is now SDI instead of MDI as part of the problem is due to multiple instances of Word running.

    Here is an article from the MS KB that may be worth taking a look at:
    <A target="_blank" HREF=http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/Q170/7/35.ASP>http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/ar...s/Q170/7/35.ASP</A>

    You might also consider upgrading to Outlook 98 to see if that makes a difference. It is no longer free from MS, but I believe there are several sites that still have it available. A quick search on Google should turn one up.

    Also, if you don't have all of the SR's installed that would be worth looking into as well. Note that there really isn't a direct fix contained in any of the SR's but they could help:

    SR1: <A target="_blank" HREF=http://officeupdate.microsoft.com/articles/sr1fact.htm>http://officeupdate.microsoft.com/articles/sr1fact.htm</A>
    SR2: <A target="_blank" HREF=http://officeupdate.microsoft.com/downloadDetails/sr2off97detail.htm>http://officeupdate.microsoft.com/download...off97detail.htm</A>
    Post Service Release Fixes(aka Word SR3):
    <A target="_blank" HREF=http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/Q265/3/74.ASP>http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/ar...s/Q265/3/74.ASP</A>
    ~~~~~~~~~~~
    Cheers!
