on screen view truncates my cells text

    Hi

I have this excel worksheet. for colum N - text is inserted into the column - like clauses & paragraphs etc.
On screen some of the cells truncate the text - however if I click on this cell - it displays all the text.
    eg on screen
G.In this Sub-Lease any reference to the Head-Lease shall be taken as meaning the Head-Lease as varied by the Deed of Variation
eg if i click on the cell
    G. In this Sub-Lease any reference to the Head-Lease shall be taken as meaning the Head-Lease as varied by the Deed of Variation and the Deed of Agreement.
    eg if I print out
result is it prints all the text.

My column/cell is formatted I select the column goto the excel menu Format>cell>Alignment>Text control=Wrap text.
    Is it my column/cells formatting?

Is there a maximum amount of characters in the cell & I've exceeded this amount with my screen view?
    many thanks
    Diana

The text you mention is nowhere near the limit of what can be displayed in a cell. Can you post a screenshot of an offending cell with its surroundings?

    Hans ....
and an example of when we click in the cell the cell view thats displayed.
although when we print out the excel file it prints all the data in the cell.
Would it be an on screen view setting in excel?

Hi Hans...heres the screen shots you requested.

    the example of on screenView.
the text is truncated & bunched up & squashed together.

Re: on screen view truncates my cells text

This text is much longer than what you originally posted. Excel can only display 1,024 characters in a cell (except when you are editing it); all characters (up to 32,767) are displayed in the formula bar if you select the cell. Your text is probably longer than 1,024 characters, so the truncation is "normal" behavior.

Also, as you found out, Excel is not really WYSIWYG (what you see is what you get). It doesn't display wrapped text entirely correctly, in particular at zoom percentages less than 100%. There have been threads about this before, and I don't think a satisfactory solution was found.

    Hi Hans

thanks for that. Yes its much easier if you can see or have the file to work with then trying to explain it.
But how did you find out the max. characters in a cell? I was looking in Excel97's index help & couldnt find any reference to max. characters in a column.
