gridlines covered up by fill color (2000 SR1)

I haven't been able to figure out how to keep the gridlines showing after putting a fill color in a column. I know I can go to Borders and put lines in that way, but then that does away with other borders I want to stay in place, and the lines are heavier too. But I need the gridlines to print out in those "color-filled" columns too.
thanks for any help.

The only fix I know is the one you came up with, use a border. You can "lighten them by using a different linestyle or a different color (light gray is smilar to the gridlines). If you don't want to overwrite other borders, in those sections don't add the new borders, just keep the current ones.

This macro will add gray (color index 15), thin, continuous borders, around the sides of all the cells in the selection that DO NOT have borders already
Change the style, weight, and color as desired.

Steve

Option Explicit
Sub AddBorderGrids()
Dim rcell As Range
Dim iBorder As Integer
For Each rcell In Selection
For iBorder = 7 To 10
With rcell.Borders(iBorder)
If .LineStyle = xlNone Then
.LineStyle = xlContinuous
.Weight = xlThin
.ColorIndex = 15
End If
End With
Next
Next
End Sub

WOW! That works sweet. I changed weight to Hairline and the colorindex to 1, and it prints out exactly like the other gridlines.

Thanks for the help.

Excellent Steve, that overcomes another of Microsoft' Great Irritations.
